Step One
You can create your own ladder and there are plenty of videos and such on how to create your own ladder. One of our top tips is to use a ladder from a bunk bed! That is what we did for this video. We found this particular ladder because someone was throwing away their bunk bed and we took the ladder. Check your thrift store and craigslist because people are always wanting to get ride of their bunk beds after their kids grow out of them.
Take the ladder and use your tools/screwdriver to take off all of the hardware that attaches the ladder to the bunk bed. Luckily since it's a bunk bed ladder it will already have an angle at the base of the legs so you can lean it against the wall.
Step Two
For our ladder we didn't want to change the color because it happened to match perfectly with the wood accents in the Airbnb property we were using it in. However it is very easy to change the color.
Use the sand paper to sand off any slightly any varnish or seal already on the wood. Then you can either use a wood stain if you are looking to keep the natural vibe of the wood and just want it darker in color. If you want to completely change the color we would suggest a white or grey. After painting or staining it wait for it to dry and then apply a varnish so that the color will be sealed in and will extend the life of the piece.
Step Three
Lastly you need to find the blanket! We used a white one to keep it more neutral to off-set the orange wood color. Since our ladder is more plain we wanted a more ornate blanket. We used a patterned knit blanket to give the piece more texture. You can find some good little blankets like this from your local thrift store for fairly cheap!
